Zheng holds a BA and an MA in media and communication studies and an MPhil and a PhD in sociology. Her main research interestis in the sociologies of culture and technology, focusing on how culture and technology interact with political and economic power in society. Previously, Zheng has carried out research on the independent bookselling business in China, investigating the meaning, process, tensions, and implications of culture-making in an authoritarian capitalist context.
At the IF, Zheng looks to understand what goes on in China’s digital economy and how the digital transformation is reshaping the country economically, socially, and culturally.
