This project, led by Dr Jess Whittlestone at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (LCFI) and the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER), explores the question: "In what scenarios might 'intermediate' advances in AI capabilities (i.e. falling short of human-level AI) lead to extreme and long-lasting impacts on society, and what can we do to shape those impacts today?"
Over the next 6-12 months, the project will focus on developing a research agenda and exploring methodologies for exploring mid-term AI futures, with a particular focus on ways to combine deep technical expertise with broad stakeholder engagement.
