AI: Futures and Responsibility (AI:FAR) is a collaboration between the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (LCFI) and the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER), led by Dr Seán Ó hÉigeartaigh.
The programme has three interconnected aims:
- improving our understanding of what kinds of developments in AI might have extreme and/or long-lasting impacts on society;
- developing recommendations for how we can shape those impacts in positive directions and mitigate risks today, and
- working with partners across policy, industry and civil society to implement those recommendations in practice.
Past and ongoing work from this group includes: identifying underexplored AI risk scenarios, such as those arising from malicious uses of AI; developing new methodologies for exploring diverse AI futures; developing recommendations and best practices for responsible, safe and inclusive AI development; and making recommendations to UK, EU and UN governance around AI ethics, safety, and long-term impacts.
