Robert Dorschel is a PhD candidate at the Department of Sociology, where he is supervised by Prof. Jennifer Gabrys and Prof. Andreas Reckwitz.
He conducts research in the fields of labour, culture and social theory. Specifically, he focuses on the class of digital professionals. Deploying qualitative methods, he investigates the subjectivities and practices of high-skilled tech workers in the digital economy.
Robert holds a BA from the University of Kiel and a MA from the Humboldt-University in Berlin. From 2018-2019 he was a visiting graduate student at the Department of Sociology at Duke University. For his master's thesis, which combined Bourdieu's field theory and Foucault's discourse theory to analyse the profession of data scientists, Robert received the Best Thesis Award by the German Sociological Association.
Robert is a converne of the Technology and New Media Research Cluster and the Science and Technology Reading Group.
